When you are looking for a quick snack to boost your energy, these Protein Brownie Bites will do the trick. They are full of flavor. They are easy to make. And they taste like a brownie!

No Cooking or Baking
The recipe has six ingredients and takes less than 15 minutes to make. You only use one bowl and there is no cooking or baking required!
Protein Brownie Bites are Gluten Free
All the ingredients used in this recipe are gluten-free. Using almond flour means no gluten and no baking.
The only sweetener used is honey which is a natural sugar and easier to digest.
The protein used in these is Jamieson Essentials Plus Protein, (I am not affiliated with Jamieson, I just like their protein powder). Any protein powder can be substituted, so you can use your favourite. The nutritional values will change depending on the brand that is used. The recipe as I make it is 73 calories and 4.6 grams of protein per single serving.
Jamieson also has a plant-based protein powder, but I haven’t been able to find chocolate flavoured.
Another good choice for protein powder is Six Star unflavoured protein. It blends well into the recipe without the chalky taste that some protein powders have.
Great Before or After A Workout
I first made these for a snack when I started going to the gym. I was looking for a quick snack to eat before a workout that wouldn’t weigh me down. Eating one of these before a workout gave me a little energy boost without a heavy feeling. Then one after a workout gave me another boost of energy.
Kids Love Them, Too
During my boys’ football season, they worked out really hard and their energy was drained quickly. I was looking for a quick snack they could eat before a game or practice to give them some energy. They usually ate fruit before a game but they lost energy by half-time. These protein bites gave them the boost they needed to get to half-time. Another couple of Protein Brownie Bites at halftime with orange or apple slices and they were ready for the second half.
It wasn’t long before other moms on the team started asking for this recipe. We noticed a difference in the way the boys play when they got that boost of energy that didn’t weigh them down.
My daughter’s cheerleader squad also enjoys these. They are very energetic girls and Protein Brownie Bites help boost their energy for their halftime performances.
When I make these for the kids, I use different protein powders because the one I use for myself has added vitamins that the kids don’t need. For the kids, I use a whey powder protein such as Six Star Elite which now has a protein powder designed specifically for women.
If you are looking for a little added flavor, the water in the recipe can be replaced with strong coffee. Again I don’t use coffee when I make these for the kids, since they do not need the caffeine.
Dark chocolate chips are also a delicious addition.
Slivered almonds can be added as well to add to the flavor and texture.
Shredded unsweetened coconut is another great addition for texture and flavour.
Another addition that can be used is a fiber supplement (I use Benefibre) to boost the fiber in the bites.
Just remember that if you are counting calories, any addition or substitution will change the nutritional values of the recipe.
Protein Brownie Bites
- 2 scoops chocolate protein powder unflavoured protein can also be used
- ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¼ cup almond flour
- 2 Tbsp honey
- 2-3 Tbsp water or strong coffee
- 4 Tbsp mini chocolate chips
- Add protein powder, cocoa powder and almond flour to a bowl and whisk together
- Add honey and 2 Tbsp of water or coffee to dry ingredients
- Mix together with a spatula, scrapping the sides until well blended. Add the third Tbsp of liquid if the mixture is too crumbly and won't stick together.
- Fold in chocolate chips.
- Roll into 12 equal sized balls. Use a cookie scoop if you have one to make evenly sized.
- Keep refrigerated in air tight container and consume within one week. Can also be stored in the freezer for up to one month.
